YOUTH SERVICES

Come experience the relaxed atmosphere of the Children’s Department at Clear Lake Public Library.  Parents and kids can browse through our collection of board books, picture books, puppets, board games, audio books on tape or CD, easy readers for kids just learning to read, and fiction and nonfiction for elementary school age children to check out.  We also have kids music on CD for check out.  The book Youth Services #1 collection includes many award-winning titles by favorite authors and many titles on the Clear Lake School Districts Accelerated Reader lists.  LeapFrog books and cartridges as well as LeapPad units are available for check out to support early reading skills.  Ask our friendly staff to help you find just what you’re looking for.

While at the library kids can put on a puppet show, put together a puzzle or two, or play a board game.

The Parent's Shelf provides many good resources for growing families, including the magazines:  Baby Talk, Family Fun, and Parent & Child.

Regularly scheduled programs include story times for preschoolers to first grade on Mondays from 6:30 p.m.-7:00 p.m. and for infants to age 5 Fridays 10:30 a.m.-11:00 a.m.  Thursday ThrillersYouth Services #2 from 4:00-5:00 p.m. offers fun stories, crafts and games for grades 1-3.  The Family Reading Club for 4th and 5th graders with an adult from home meets monthly from October to April.  Other special programs for elementary students are offered throughout the year.

On the main floor is the Young Adult (YA) area, designed especially for middle school and high school students. It houses books and magazines of interest to young adults.  YA non-fiction is inter-shelved with the adult non-fiction.  The library's computer resources and audio-visual collection are also available for young adults to utilize.  The Library Teen Council helps to plan young adult activities, such as mystery parties and provides many volunteer opportunities for young people.  To be involved in Teen Council activities, please inquire at the circulation desk on the main floor.
