Ice Skating Rink
MARIAN PARK ICE SKATING RINK

WEATHER NOT COOPERATING...

It has to be below freezing to make and MAINTAIN ice, but realistically, it needs to be around 20 degrees F to make skatable ice (the ideal temperature for making ice is a consistent 10-20 deg. F).  The water comes out of the hydrant at around 50 Deg. F, so even if the air temps are around 32 deg. F, it is not cold enough to make skatable ice.  Adding 50 deg. water to the rink when the weather is above freezing will do nothing other than thaw out whatever frost is left.  Once the frost is out, the water simply disappears into the soil. The temps aren't supposed to get below freezing until after Thurs./Fri of next week (Dec.27/28), so we will attempt again after then. Please realize that we are at a stage of a complete do-over with the warm weather we have had, and the process is not a quick one.

The Clear Lake Parks and Recreation Department has an outdoor ice skating rink which is located Marian Park on 2nd Avenue North and N. 12th Street.

When the weather is cooperating (during winter months) and it stays cold, we begin to put layers of water on the rink to build up the base of the rink.  It is a time consuming process and can only be done during ideal temperatures.  Once the rink is set, ice skating is permitted at anytime (unless we are applying water to the rink).

Skating is free to the public, but we do ask that you abide by posted rules at all times.
